The challenge
As a designer I’m a very visually minded person. I love the look and feel of things and the feel like the creator has put their heart and soul into it. I like the tiny details and the unseen nexuses that make a piece of work feel the way to does. I love the craft.
However, I also have a lot of thoughts that run through my mind.
I have questioned my purpose and place within this industry for a while now. Most importantly, my future and direction within it.
This lead me to one realisation… I wanted to write about what makes me tick, what gets me excited in the world of creativity.
With the industry I work in, mostly in the corporate world, focusing on design solutions for corporate needs.
I could talk about the latest branding trends, or how to engage corporate clients through creativity.
Sure, I’ll talk about Design, from branding, editorial design and typography.
But I also wanted to talk about other areas of creativity that excited me.
I’m a huge fan of cinema, from the way they are directed and edited, to the how the stories are told via acting, cinematography and music.
I also love video games and how worlds are brought to life through design and technology.
I love to get lost in a good book and narratives that unfold.
I also want to talk about areas of graphic design that don’t often get talked about in my circles, especially relating to the above. Film and Games are great examples that have been art directed and designed, but no one in my game talks about it.
Mostly, I want this journal to one two things. One, a reflection of who I am and what I enjoy. Forget the trends, its about what I like, regardless of when it was made. Two, I want it be an opportunity for myself to understand I want I favour and what really excites me.
Hopefully, whoever maybe reading this, they’ll also gain an understand of me and maybe, we might share an interest that could lead to conversation starting.
Some may find what I write about interesting… great.
Some won’t, and that’s ok
Because that’s the point. It’s for me.
The approach
We decided focus on an editorial, clean and contemporary art direction. A brand that stood out amongst the competition, avoiding classical bridal images in favour of a brand that feels like it belongs in the present.
